No ideas beamed into your doubting mind?

& announcement feat. Felicity’s feat with her feet

‘Licity the Little took her first giant step for mankind!

That is to say, Baby Felicity, both her hands being filled with treasures, arose on her legs and ventured forth, walking three steps.

Also, MomBrain had a birthday that was much more fun than writing. And that means this newsletter will be as short as it is late.

For MomBrain’s birthday, we watched a movie about a podcaster that gave me an idea about writing.

(Unfortunately, can’t recommend the movie because it had a bit of foul-mouthedness.)

One of the characters delivers the complete idea during a mini speech:

“I’d probably say that nobody writes anything. All we do is translate. So if you ever get stuck and you don't know what to say... just listen. Even to the silences. Listen as hard as you can to the world around you and... repeat back what you hear. That translation, that's your voice.”

And another quote from a book that has nothing to do with the movie:

“Had my credentials been in order I would never have become a writer. Had I been blessed with even limited access to my own mind there would have been no reason to write. I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear.”

That one is from Joan Didion, a real author.

I think these two quotes are connected in some way.

One takeaway: When in doubt, play reporter.

Refreshing thoughts if you’re worried that you haven’t received a fully formed article beamed into your mind via Hollywood style lightening bolt (with accompanying sound effect).

Goodnight.
